HASSAN: Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan has assured a Janaspandana Vedike delegation that the National Highway stretch connecting Sakleshpur and Mangalore passing through Shiradi Ghat will be repaired soon, according to Janekere R. Paramesh of the vedike. Speaking to The Hindu here on Friday, he said the delegation had apprised the Minister of the miserable condition of the road. Mr. Rajasekharan said that work had already begun and traffic had been restricted on the road so that it could be laid according to National Highway standards. Mr. Rajasekharan had said that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had assured a delegation of Karnataka MPs at a meeting in September that passenger train services between Mangalore and Bangalore would begin in November. Bypass roadMr. Rajasekharan also assured the delegation that their request for a bypass on National Highway 48 around Sakleshpur would be complied with. The highway passes through the middle of Sakleshpur creating frequent traffic jams there, Mr. Paramesh said. Bykere Nagesh and Hegara Pithambar from the vedike were part of the delegation.
