ABVP activists seek more buses in Hubli

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Several students under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad staged a “rasta roko” for a while at the Old KSRTC Bus Stand in Hubli on Friday demanding buses for Hulkoti in Gadag district.

The protesters alleged that in spite of repeated requests by students, the NWKRTC officials had not taken any step to increase the bus services to Hulkoti, especially during the morning, in order to help the college-going students.

Another complaint of the students was that although there was a long-distance bus that left Hubli at 7.30 p.m., they were not allowed to board the bus with their student pass.

As part of the protest, the students blocked the exit of the bus stand for almost 30 minutes and said they would allow the buses to go out until their demands were met.

Finally, the protesters withdrew their protest after the Divisional Controller of Hubli Division of NWKRTC assured them that he would take steps to run two buses at 7 a.m. and 7.15 a.m. daily for the benefit of the student. He assured them that he would take steps to allow the students’ pass holders to board the long-distance bus at 7.30 a.m. ABVP leader Mahendra Kautal and others led the protest.

According to ABVP leaders, there were 224 students who daily commute to Hulkoti for their studies.
