THENI: Farmers must use only organic manure to preserve fertility of land and protect micronutrients on surface soil essential for plant growth. Adoption of advanced technology in precision farming will enhance volume of production and quality of produce, according to Collector Har Sahay Meena.
He was inspecting a model paddy field at a government organic farm at Lower Gudalur near here on Thursday.
Use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides must be reduced in a phased manner to scale down adverse impact on water, soil and air. It would also ensure high quality chemical residue-free farm produce. Above all the environment would be protected.
Expressing grave concern over wilt disease, Mr. Meena said that the government was offering financial assistance for replacement of wilt-hit coconut trees. Earlier, he disbursed Rs.2.09 lakh to coconut growers whose farms were hit by wilt disease.
The Joint Director of Agriculture, K. Periasamy, accompanied him.
