BHUBANESWAR: Elections to students’ union are unlikely in at least five colleges in the Capital city after most of nominations were rejected on grounds of low attendance on Friday.

With the elections to be held on Monday, stray incidents of violence in college campuses across the State was witnessed. According to sources, 53 nominations from students were received by BJB Autonomous College and authorities found 51 did not have enough attendance to qualify for contesting the election. After scrutiny, only two students were in the fray and they were likely to be elected uncontested.

Similarly, all 40 nominations received by Debrai College of the city were rejected. Violence broke out in Debrai and Jaydev colleges after scrutiny results were announced. Similarly, election was unlikely in Kamala Nehru College. Ironically, no nomination paper was rejected in Utkal University. Only a president candidate withdrew on Friday. Now, there are three president candidates in the fray in Orissa’s premiere university. In Rama Devi College, four girls are contesting for the president’s post. Reports reaching from different districts said most of the nomination papers were rejected due to low attendance and failure to clear previous exams.
