BHUBANESWAR: Here is some good news for the farming community in Orissa. The State would procure paddy at gram panchayat-level during this kharif season. At a press conference here on Friday, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manmohan Samal said that a total of 25 lakh tonnes of paddy would be procured this year. Efforts were being made to open at least one procurement centre in every block of the State, he said. Different agencies of the State government and the Centre would procure 23 lakh tonnes and the remaining two lakh tonnes would be procured through rice millers, Mr. Samal said. The Minister said that the minimum support price had been fixed at Rs. 695 per quintal and Rs. 725 for Grade-A.
