CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S. F. Rodrigues on Friday called for showcasing the significant features of India’s heritage and glimpses of “incredible India” by offering seamless and painless tourism-related services. Inaugurating the North India Tourism Conclave ‘n’TOUR’ organised at CII Headquarters here, Gen Rodrigues emphasised the need for developing the tourism potential in the northern region through public-private partnership in a coordinated manner. He called for boosting India’s image globally as a preferred tourist destination. “We must take joy and pride in our glorious historical past and teach our children the basic facts of our rich culture,” he added. The Administrator said various plans were being implemented to place Chandigarh and the region on the global tourism map with the focus on extending efficient medical, educational and entertainment-oriented facilities. A mega theme park was being set up, the first of its kind in the country, to highlight Indian culture and mythology. It would attract at least half a million visitors annually and give a major boost to tourism. A multi-media-cum-film city was also coming up and it was proposed to set up a medi-city with a full-fledged network of research facilities. Also, the Rajiv Gandhi Technology Park was coming up rapidly in the City Beautiful, he added. He also called for introducing the concept of tourism police for helping the tourists. Hemant Anand, Chairman n’TOUR, in his keynote address emphasised the need for evolving a common taxation policy by the northern States for the tourists travelling in the region.
