BANGALORE: Governor Rameshwar Thakur has cancelled 1,580 political nominations made to the various cooperative bodies by the Janata Dal (S)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the last two months. A notification regarding the cancellation of nominations has been issued by the Governor on Friday. The Governor’s action comes a day after the Congress leaders complained to him that the coalition government had made these nominations in a hurry to take control of the cooperative bodies. The Governor has left it to the next Government to make such nominations. These political nominations had been made in various cooperative institutions, including the primary cooperative societies, taluk and district-level cooperative bodies, besides the apex cooperative body. With the cancellation of the appointments, the political balance in some of these bodies is likely to tilt as the number of the JD (S) and the BJP members in these bodies would reduce.
