It will showcase attacks on supporters of Trinamool-backed movement Campaign against violence at Nandigram will continue, says Mamata KOLKATA: Video cassettes showing attacks on supporters of the Trinamool Congress-backed Bhoomi Ucched Pratirodh (Resistance against eviction from land) Committee in Nandigram will be screened later this month, party chief Mamata Banerjee said here on Thursday. The screenings would take place outside pandals in the city during the four-day Durga Puja festivals. “We want to know why the supporters of the CPI(M), who are being backed by the police, are continuing their atrocities at Nandigram and action is not being taken against them,” Ms Banerjee said. Her party would continue its movement against the setting up of industries on agricultural land. Ms. Banerjee was addressing a rally organised by the Krishi Jami, Jiban, Jibika Raksha (Save farmland, lives and livelihoods) Committee, of which her party is the principal constituent. The campaign against the continuing violence at Nandigram would continue peacefully during the Puja festival, without disturbing the festivities, she said. Ms Banerjee regretted that the State government had failed to act against those responsible for alleged malpractices in the rationing system, which had forced her party to launch a protest movement in the districts. Ration dealers in certain parts of south Bengal have been attacked and their houses and shops set on fire over the past few days by those protesting against malpractices in the pubic distribution system.
