Coimbatore: As part of the gesture to the industry stake holders, the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, LPG Territory, Coimbatore, on Thursday organised a medical camp for truck drivers at its bottling plant at Peelamedu.
To enhance awareness among the truck drivers on the sexually-transmitted diseases and to prevent them from becoming vulnerable a condom vending machine was also installed at the BPCL plant entrance.
The drivers of LPG container and petroleum tanker trucks could get condom from this machine. They would have to insert a Rs. 5 coin for getting a pack of three condoms. This was done to protect the vulnerable group of truck drivers from such diseases.
The camp was organised in association with Victoria Educational and Social Welfare Trust (VEST) and Lawrence and Mayo to mark the World Sight Day.
The camp was inaugurated by T. Gunasekaran, Deputy Transport Commissioner – Coimbatore Circle, Prabhudass - Director of VEST, S. Thangavel – Territory Manager, Pradeep Nair – Territory Co-ordinator. More than 300 truck drivers were benefited at the medical camp, a release from BPCL said.
