Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam to approach court on the issue
‘Those who are supporting any act of untouchability should be punished as per law’
SALEM: Ambedkar Makkal Iyakam has urged the Salem District administration to reopen the Kandampatti Sri Draupathi Amman Temple immediately and facilitate Dalits to enter the temple to offer worship in it.
Saying that Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam would approach court in this issue, its Salem district Youth wing secretary A. Annadurai said that despite the Constitutional rights, the Dalits were prevented from entering the temple to offer prayers.
Instead of safeguarding the Constitution, the Salem District administration closed the HR and CE-administered temple citing law and order problems.
He said that those who were supporting any act of untouchability such as like closing the temple should be punished as per law.
Action should have been initiated against those who permitted the caste Hindus to take law in their hands and denying Dalits the permission to enter the temple.
Instead of taking the Dalits into the temple, Salem District administration closed the temple, which he claimed was against Constitution. Hence action should be taken against the officials of the Salem District administration. Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam also will approach the court in this regard, he further added.
He urged the State to ask the District administration to open the temple and ensure that people of all castes offering worship.
