KOCHI: To protest against the ‘neglect’ of Lakshadweep people by the Union government, BJP activists staged a dharna in front of the Lakshadweep office at Wellingdon Island on Friday morning. The dharna, led by Lakshadweep BJP president K.P. Muthukoya, was inaugurated by Kerala BJP general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan. The leaders sought an end to the travel woes of the islanders because of shortage of vessels and ‘exceedingly high’ airfare to the islands. They also sought immediate payment of scholarships and other educational benefits of Lakshadweep students studying in Kerala. Ernakulam district president of the BJP Nedumbassrery Ravi was among those who spoke.
