Indo-Russian Joint Coordination Committee meeting at Koodankulam

TIRUNELVELI: Joint Coordination Committee meeting of top officials of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Russian firms involved in construction of 2 X 1,000 MW VVER nuclear reactors at Koodankulam was held at the project site on Friday.
The VVER (Vodo - Vodyanoi Energetichesky Reactor) is the Russian version of the Light Water Pressurized Water Reactor.
In western countries, the PWR is used as the acronym.
While the Indian side was headed by top NPCIL officials namely its Chairman and Managing Director, S.K. Jain and the Director (Projects), NPCIL, S.K. Agrawal, in the JCC meeting, the 30-member Russian side comprised S.I. Shmatko, the president of Atomstroyexports, the Russian company that builds the nuclear reactors at Koodankulam.
It is learnt that the officials discussed the delay in the recent past in getting equipment and drawings from the Russians in time and arrived at a solution to avoid such problems in future.
