Bail plea rejected
Staff Reporter
Kolkata: The bail plea of the six Greenpeace activists, who were arrested on charges of criminal trespassing for scaling a 250-feet long smokestack at the Kolaghat thermal power station in the Purbo Medinipur district, was rejected here on Friday.
The activists, who were protesting against the harmful effects of thermal power plants, were produced before the Purbo Medinipur Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court. It quashed their bail petition, Ruchira Talukdar, Greenpeace Communications said. The next hearing is slated for Monday.
The plight of the arrested activists was also highlighted on the banners aboard the ‘Rainbow Warrior,’ the Greenpeace flagship that sailed into Kolkata on Friday morning.
