Ranji probables to train at Infosys campus

Bangalore: The Karnataka Ranji probables will train at the Infosys campus in Mysore from October 13 to 25 as part of the build-up to the forthcoming domestic season.

Former India and Karnataka player, Vijay Bharadwaj, will don the coach’s mantle as the earlier appointee Rajesh Kamat had joined the breakaway Indian Cricket League.

The KSCA is yet to officially announce Bharadwaj’s appointment as coach for the Ranji season though it is considered a mere formality. Bharadwaj will be assisted by physio Muthu Kumar.

Anil Kumble, who is part of the 35-member probables list, is expected to attend the camp for a few days. “I have spoken to Anil and he will be coming to Mysore. He will train with the boys for a couple of days,” Bharadwaj said.

The probables: N.C. Aiyappa, B. Akhil, Amit Verma, Anil Kumble, K.P. Appanna, Arjun Shetty, Barrington Rowland, Bharath Chipli, V. Cheluvaraj, Deepak Chougule, Devraj Patil, S. MSRIT retains title

Host M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) retained the M.S. Ramaiah memorial Trophy defeating Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT) by four wickets in the final of the inter-engineering colleges’ cricket tournament here on Friday.

BIT scored 162 in 44.2 overs with Vijay Karthik bagging four wickets. Defending champions MSRIT surpassed the score in 40 overs with Tejas Wagle (51) and Sandeep Murthy (42 n.o.) anchoring the chase.

The scores (final): BIT 162 in 44.2 overs (Vijay Karthik four for 31) lost to MSRIT 165 for six in 40 overs (Tejas Wagle 51, Sandeep Murthy 42 n.o.).

Hat-trick by Vijay

Vijay Babu’s hat-trick (ninth, 39th and 42nd mins.) helped Government Press defeat SWRI 3-2 in a State ‘A’ division league match at the Football Stadium here on Friday.

For SWRI, Dinesh scored in the 30th and 56th minutes.

In a super division match, BEL upset fancied Postal Department 5-0. Arvind (2), Stephen, Musharaf and Freddy scored for BEL.

In the ‘C’ division league in progress at the Malleswaram Grounds, Vehicle FC and MICO were locked in a 1-1 draw.

Easy for RWF

Openers Shahid (65 n.o.) and Mukesh (52 n.o.) shared a 122-run partnership to power Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) to a 10-wicket victory over BEML (C) in an Industries cricket tournament match here recently.

BEML (C) scored 120 in 24 overs and RWF eased past the target in 18 overs.

The scores: BEML (C) 120 in 24 overs lost to RWF 122 for no loss in 18 overs (Shahid 65 n.o., Mukesh 52 n.o.).

HAL 136 in 22 overs lost to Vijaya Bank 140 for two in 18 overs (Shyam Ponnappa 65, Shashidhar 52).
