NEW DELHI: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre, Lucknow, cruised into the final beating Mizo Higher Secondary School, Aizwal, 4-1 via tie-breaker, in the Subroto Cup under-14 football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday. The teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation time and failed to break the deadlock even in extra-time. In the tie-breaker, SAI scored through Mathura Beck, Readytone Nongbrl, Henry Marboh and Alborlong K. Mujat. For the Mizo school, only Daniel managed to score. In the last quarterfinal match, Green Wood High School, Dimapur, Nagaland, defeated Allied Co-ed School, Nepal, 2-1 in extra-time. Tingriyer gave the Nagaland school the lead in the 44th minute but Allied levelled five minutes later through Laxman Mahat. In extra-time, Lunminlal scored Green Wood’s match-winner in the 12 minute. Sehwag to leadVirender Sehwag will lead a 15-member Delhi team in the forthcoming Ranji Trophy tournament with Gautam Gambir as his deputy. The team does not include any surprises as the selection committee of Chetan Chauhan (chairman), Vinay Lamba, Manu Nayyar, Vivek Razdan and Nikhil Chopra picked the players purely on merit. Promising left-arm seamer Pradeep Sangwan, with some outstanding performances in the junior grade, earned a spot along with Ashish Nehra, Amit Bhandari and Ishant Sharma as Delhi decided to include just one slow bowler, leg-spinner Chetnya Nanda in the squad, which begins its campaign with a home encounter against Rajasthan from November 4. Mayank Tehlan, Shikhar Dhawan, Aditya Jain and Virat Kohli are the young batsmen. Meanwhile Mithun Manhas, Aakash Chopra and Rajat Bhatia will lending experience to the line up. Puneet Bisht retains his place as the wicketkeeper. The reserves are Kunaal Laal, Yogesh Nagar, Abishek Sharma and Gaurav Chhabra. The team: Virender Sehwag (captain), Gautam Gambhir (Vice-capt), Aakash Chopra, Shikhar Dhawan, Mithun Manhas, Rajat Bhatia, Mayank Tehlan, Virat Kohli, Aditya Jain, Puneet Bisht, Ashish Nehra, Ishant Sharma, Pradeep Sangwan, Amit Bhandari and Chetnya Nanda.
