Chennai: The USA-1 women’s team won the Venice Cup beating Germany 242-159 IMPs on the penultimate day of the World bridge championship being played in Shanghai. The Americans bagged their second title in this championship when they beat Indonesia 205-127 in the Seniors Bowl. In the Bermuda Bowl final, Norway continued its brilliant run and is 57 IMPs ahead of USA-1. Two segments (16 boards each) remain to be played on Saturday. The bronze medal in the Bermuda Bowl went to the Netherlands which prevailed over South Africa in the play-off. The host team, China Global Times, won the bronze in the Venice Cup beating 2005 title holder France. USA-2 narrowly won the bronze in the Seniors Bowl, beating Brazil 109-107. The trans-national team event final will be between Russia and Zimmerman. The final is a three-segment affair. Final standings: Venice Cup:1. USA-1 (Jill Levin, Irina Levitina, Jill Meyers, Hansa Narasimhan, Debbie Rosenberg and Joanna Stansby. 2. Germany. Seniors Bowl: 1. USA-2 (Roger Bates, Grant Baze, Bart Bramley, Rose Meltzer, Alan Sontag and Lew Stansby). 2. Indonesia.
