KOCHI: The Kalamassery police arrested two persons allegedly involved in a case of breaking into the office of a private company and stealing Rs.1 lakh. Sajith T. Rahman (34) alias Saji and P.P. Sajeevan (21), also known as Dinesh, were produced before the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate II and were remanded for 14 days. Babu, a suspected accomplice of Saji, was absconding, the police said. A police team led by Kalamassery Circle Inspector made the arrest. Saji was arrested from North Railway Station on Thursday evening, while Dinesh was arrested from near the Aluva KSRTC bus stand on Friday morning. The case is that Saji, who was relieved as branch manager of the Kalamassery-based company for embezzlement of Rs.1.83 lakh, stole another Rs.1 lakh from the office of the same company last week with the help of Babu. He is not an employee of the company since September 30. The police said the crime was committed after Dinesh who was serving as a clerk in the same company passed on information about the presence of cash in the office and gave the office key to Saji. Saji with the help of Babu entered the office using the key and took away the cash. They then broke the lock themselves and poured chilly powder all over the office and on the stairs leading to the office in the first floor of the building to create the impression of a theft, the police said. The police interrogated Saji in connection with the case, as he was an employee of the company till recently. Suspicious over his statement, the police made an inquiry at his home in Malappuram.
