Cyber offence: one arrested

KOCHI: The Kalamassery police on Friday arrested a person on charges of sending defamatory e-mails using a fake mail ID with the objective of damaging the reputation of his former employer, Skyline Foundations and Structures Private Limited in Ernakulam.

Sonjoe Joseph (31), a former employee of the company, was arrested from Ernakulam North Railway Station on his arrival from Bangalore. The police said that he was absconding ever since the company filed a complaint against him.

The police said Joseph was forced to resign from the company as customer care executive almost two months back owing to malpractices. He had valuable information about the company, including the e-mail ID of its clients.

The accused created a fake ID using which he sent from his personal computer misleading and damaging e-mails to the clients about the company, the police said. As a result of this, the company, reportedly, lost out on many valuable clients thus suffering huge financial loss.
