NEW DELHI: The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday held a Jet Airways aircraft responsible for a lapse wherein two planes nearly collided at Indira Gandhi International Airport here this past Sunday. Investigating the incident involving IC-802 (Chennai-Delhi) and Jet Airways flight (JAI-2306), the DGCA in its report said: “In the instant case since the evidence in the form of Air Traffic Control (ATC) tape transcript has revealed deficiencies in the knowledge of the Jet Airways flight crew with regard to departure procedures outlined in Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) supplement, necessary action will be initiated.” The DGCA investigation was carried out on the report of the Commander of IC-802 in which he said he had carried out a “go around” while coming in to land at the airport runway on Sunday. He also said that JAI-2306 was asked to line up and take off and had delayed its departure by backtracking on the runway (in order to use full length) without the ATC’s permission. The DGCA investigation has also revealed that there was “no breach of separation, violation of the safety procedures or any safety hazard involved when IC-802 was advised to go around at near short finals as the Jet Airways flight was still on the runway delaying his take-off by backtracking”. “The Jet Airways pilot while entering the runway did not as per procedure start his take-off roll from the intersection but had commenced back tracking on the runway and that too without taking permission/informing the ATC,” the DGCA report said.
