Five held, tractors seized for mud quarrying

KANCHEEPURAM: Five persons were arrested and six tractors seized by police on charges of illegally transporting mud from the Mevalurkuppam area on Thursday night.

According to police, a team, led by Superintendent of Police K. Periaiya came to Melavurkuppam at around 11 p.m. and surrounded a group of workers loading mud from some land near the Krishna Channel.

It was said that the tractor owners and the workers had been quarrying mud from the channel illegally and transporting it to construction sites or brick kiln units.

Five persons including the owner of a tractor were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
