Housewife murdered in Madurai

MADURAI: In a suspected murder for gain, a housewife was allegedly done to death at Athikulam here on Friday.

According to police sources, S. Sasikala (21) of Mayil Nagar Third Cross Street was found lying in a pool of blood around 2 p.m.

Besides attacking with a sharp-edged weapon, the accused seemed to have used a cable wire to strangulate her.

Her husband informed the police that 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in the almirah was missing. The Madurai Superintendent of Police, T.S. Anbu, visited the scene of crime.

The Oomachikulam police are investigating.
