CM asks industry to work for inclusive growth

Special Correspondent

‘The industry has to ensure the growth of middle class of the society’

Call to industry to set up rural residential schools

State focussing on opportunities in manufacturing sector

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy asked the champions of the industry to strive for inclusive growth.

The country was witnessing “tremendous” growth in several spheres with the GDP crossing the nine per cent mark, but there were concerns as to whether the growth was percolating to all sections of the society.

If the industry has to sustain its growth, it should ensure the growth of middle class that formed a major chunk of the purchasing community. Dr. Reddy was participating in an interactive session on inclusive growth organised by the Confederation of India Industry (CII) Southern region here on Friday.

Credit linkage

Explaining about the measures initiated by the Government like strengthening the self-help groups that created a revolution, he said banks were continuously enhancing credit linkages to these micro finance institutions.

He reiterated his call to the industry to come forward in setting up rural residential schools that were planned in Public Private Partnership mode as strengthening and proper empowerment of the human resources was the need of the hour.

Major Industries Minister J. Geeta Reddy said the Government was concentrating on the opportunities in the manufacturing sector that was neglected previously.

Industries’ role

She wanted the industry to enhance its performance to increase its contribution to the GDP from the current 12.5 per cent to 15 per cent.

CII Southern region chairman P.K. Mohapatra and its AP Council chairman Pradeep Dhobale spoke.
