HYDERABAD: The 39-MW capacity first unit of the Jurala hydro-electric project in Mahabubnagar district has been positioned for trial run, with the completion of the civil works and the installation of the turbines and other key equipment. G. Adiseshu, director (Hydel), AP Genco, told The Hindu here on Saturday that water might be introduced into the penstocks anytime now, to run the turbines. “Once water introduction is successful, we will start the trial run that will continue for a month”. After the synchronisation of the first unit with the grid, the rest of the five units, each of the same capacity of 39 MW, would be commissioned, each with a gap of six months. As for the present arrangement, a half of the power generated from the station will have to be necessarily sold out to Karnataka at a tariff rate to be fixed by the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission. This is in view of the fact that some villages in Karnataka came under the submergence of the Jurala project reservoir.
