Trench dug for hostel poses danger to people

Dangerous: The trough dug by the college for construction of a hostel at Udayagiri in Hassan.

HASSAN: Residents of Udayagiri in Hassan city are a worried lot. Three months ago, a local college dug a 12-foot-deep trough for construction of a hostel, but did not fence it.

Residents in the area were under the impression that on commencement of construction work, safety measures would be introduced. But that did not happen. Construction work on the hostel has not started for quite some time now and the trough has remained unfilled.

It has now become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Residents of the area have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to direct the college management to fill the huge pit.
