Three-day Hampi Utsav to begin from November 3

BELLARY: The district-level committee, headed by Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority Arvind Srivastav, has decided to organise “Hampi Utsav”, a three-day cultural festival of dance, music and drama, at Hampi on November 3, 4 and 5, this year.

As many as 15 sub-committees have been formed with instructions to chalk out an action plan for the conduct of the event. Accommodation, food and transportation are among the arrangements being made for artistes and guests participating in the festivities. Efforts to organise a make-shift bus stand, parking lots, regulation of traffic and setting up of information centres at the bus stand in Hospet, taluk office and the railway station are under way. The committee has decided to allow private participation in the organisation of the exhibition-cum-sale of products which will be held for 15 days. Cultural programmes by district-level artistes will also be organised. This is for the first time the exhibition is being held for 15 days. Tenders have been floated in this regard. The committee has decided to shift the “kusti akada” (wrestling arena) from the present bus stand area at Hampi to the nearby Kaddirampur village.

The bus stand area will be used for performances of folk artistes participating in the “Janapada Kalavahini” on the last day of the utsav. Mr. Srivastav has instructed the Assistant

Executive Engineer, National Highway 63, to get the road between Toranagal and Hospet repaired to facilitate easy movement of vehicles. The Public Works Department has also been asked to repair the road leading to Hampi.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Srivastav told presspersons that the Government had allocated Rs. one crore for the utsav of which Rs. 50 lakh had been released to the district committee for making arrangements.

He said the committee had requested the Government to release Rs. three crore for developing infrastructure for the festival.
