Food cell personnel seize 325 bags of PDS rice

NAMAKKAL: A team of food cell personnel seized 325 bags of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System here on Friday. Acting on a tip off, the team conducted a vehicle check on Mudalaipatti bypass road and intercepted a lorry. They found 16 tonnes of PDS rice in it and arrested driver Kumar (27).

In the preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that the rice was being smuggled to Gujarat. The value of the rice was estimated to be around Rs. 3 lakh.
