PDS rice seized

NAMAKKAL: A team of food cell personnel seized 325 bags of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System here on Friday.

Acting on a tip off, the team conducted a vehicle check on Mudalaipatti bypass road and intercepted a lorry.

They found 16 tonnes of PDS rice in it and arrested driver Kumar (27). The value of the rice was estimated to be around Rs. 3 lakh.

A lorry driver was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with an overhead power cable in Annathanapatti here on Thursday.

Police said Eswaran was removing tarpaulin when the incident took place.
