Chief Minister to release special stamp on Muthuramalinga Thevar

GURU PUJA: Minister for Slum Clearance and Accommodation Control S. Thangavelan inspecting arrangements at Pasumpon on Saturday.

RAMANATHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, would release a special stamp on Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar to mark his centenary celebrations on October 30 at Pasumpon in the district, said Minister for Slum Clearance S. Thangavelan.

He made this announcement after inspecting the arrangements being made at the Thevar’s memorial on Saturday. On the direction of the Chief Minister, Minister for Revenue I. Periasamy, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment K.R. Periakaruppan, Minister for Adi Dravida Welfare R. Tamilarasi, Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar, Superintendent of Police R. Thirugnanam and Mudukulathur MLA K. Murugavel also visited Pasumpon and inspected development works undertaken by the Government in view of the centenary celebrations.

Mr. Thangavelan said that besides placing a wreath on the memorial of Thevar, the Chief Minister would attend a government function at Pasumpon. He would also release a special souvenir on Thevar. Efforts for erecting a pandal were already initiated. Most of the development works initiated at a cost of Rs.1.97 crore at Pasumpon were nearing completion. The memorial of Thevar was refurbished without affecting its basic structure. Construction of 72 houses for the Adi Dravida people was almost completed. Houses would be handed over to the beneficiaries soon.

The Collector said he had held several rounds of discussions with officials and instructed them to speed up all arrangements to be taken for the guru puja.
