Ex-MP objects to statement

BANGALORE: The former MP and Congress leader G.S. Basavaraju has taken exception to the statement of Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan that the Congress was in the third place in the State and that the JD(S) and the BJP had surpassed it in popularity.

Mr. Basavaraju said the statement had been made in an interview to a television channel. He said the statement, coming from a dignified politician, had confused the youth in the party, and some senior party members were also perplexed. He asked the party leadership to ask Mr. Rajasekharan to resign from his post. — Special Correspondent
