Government staff to join general strike on Oct. 30

Seek regularisation of contract, contingency staff

Appointment of Pension Fund Managers opposed

HYDERABAD: The Struggle Committee of Central, State Government, Public Sector Employees, Teachers and Workers will participate in the general nationwide strike on October 30 demanding withdrawal of the proposed new pension bill tabled in Parliament.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the AP Non-Gazetted Officers’ Association chairman V. Gopal Reddy and Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers’ Union president D. Sudhakar said that 1.50 crore Government employees across the country were forced to strike as the Centre failed to redress 12 long pending demands.

Mr. Sudhakar wanted the Centre and the State Governments to continue the existing pension scheme. He also took exception to the judiciary banning the right to strike. Mr. Sudhakar said that all the 18 lakh vacancies in the Centre and State governments should be filled. He wanted contract and contingency staff to be regularised.

Mr. Gopal Reddy said that even though Hyderabad had been categorised as A-1 city, the government had not enhanced the house rent allowance. He said apart from Government employees, those working in banking and insurance sectors, railways and defence establishments besides the CITU and AITUC would be participating in the strike.
