Take e-commerce to small traders: official

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Udai Pratap Singh, Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Steel, on Friday, said that the common man was not benefiting from e-commerce technology and only a certain section of educated and resourceful people were utilising the advanced facility for furthering commercial activities.

He inaugurated a seminar and conference on “e.com - emerging trends and opportunities”, organised by the MSTC Limited (formerly known as Metal Scrap Trade Corporation Limited), a central public sector undertaking and The Economic Times.

Mr. Singh suggested that the success of e-commerce depended on mass education of technology, particularly to small traders and businesses. He stressed that leaders in the sector should educate small traders and importers to ensure that they made efficient use of technology.

Lauding the efforts of MSTC Limited for popularising e-commerce, the Joint Secretary exhorted the firm to devise an affordable customised package for the poor traders and businessmen.
