Karunanidhi lauds Prime Minister
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday lauded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for their observations at an event in New Delhi on Friday on the political developments in the wake of the nuclear deal.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Karunanidhi said Dr. Singh’s “scholarly response” to questions was “really extraordinary and remarkable.”
Referring to the Prime Minister’s statement that his government was not a one-issue government and if the nuclear deal did not come through, that was not the end of life, the Chief Minister said this epitomised the whole of Dr. Singh’s experience in politics and in various other spheres of activity.
“I am able to see your inner conscience,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.
In another letter addressed to Ms. Gandhi, he said the Congress president’s statement on “the coalition dharma” reflected her “profound understanding of politics.” Her “constructive and practical approach” to problems would go a long way in “improving the country’s political atmosphere.”
