Public awareness campaign on psychiatric diseases
Special Correspondent
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority has decided to launch a month-long campaign to generate public awareness on psychiatric diseases caused by “excessive materialism” and popularise planned efforts to inculcate positive values in life.
The Authority’s Executive Chairperson, Justice Gyansudha Mishra of the Rajasthan High Court, addressing a seminar marking International Psychiatric Health Day here on Thursday said the depression and melancholy instigated by materialism could be countered by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Causes of illnes
Ms. Justice Mishra said psychiatric illness was often caused by the breakdown of joint families, unemployment, an inferiority complex, fast pace of modern life and the negative impact of foreign culture.
Unnecessary litigation
“Ancient Indian values have the potential to restore mental health and give a new direction to our lives,” said Ms. Justice Mishra, adding that the Legal Services Authority had taken up the campaign to reduce the unnecessary litigation caused in a stressful and tense atmosphere.
Among others, noted Jaipur-based psychiatrist Shiv Gautam, Social Justice and Empowerment Department Director S.C. Derashri, Rajasthan University Head of Psychology Department Manju Mehta, and representative of several voluntary organisations attended the seminar.
