Congress cadres protest ‘poor service’ at hospital

Staff Reporter

“Take action against staff who collect money for issuing lunch coupons”

Up in arms: Congress cadres staging a demonstration in Tuticorin on Saturday.

Tuticorin: Congress cadres staged a demonstration in front of the Tuticorin Medical College and Hospital on Saturday protesting the “poor quality of service” rendered by the medical institution.

C. S. Muralidharan, president, Town Congress Committee, alleged that the hospital administration was deploying trainee doctors / house surgeons in emergency care sections in large numbers more often these days, without ensuring the presence of any duty doctor from the permanent payroll.

This practice must be stopped immediately to improve the health care delivery system. The authorities have not taken any measures to control stray dog menace on the hospital premises, despite repeated appeals from different quarters. Toilets at some of the wards were closed frequently and the ones open were not maintained properly. Garbage was thrown in the surroundings of maternity ward daily. It would affect the health of new born babies.

The Dean must take immediate action against the staff who collected money from in-patients for issuing lunch coupons. Identity cards / certificates issued through the hospital for physically challenged must be expedited. Steps must be taken to stop the disbursal of cards to differently abled persons at the first floor of the hospital; it must be given at the ground floor itself to avoid hardships to beneficiaries, he said.

P.Kathirvel, district president (North), and senior leaders took part in the agitation.
