By-election rescheduled

PANAJI: The Election Commission on Saturday rescheduled the date of the Mormugao (South Goa) parliamentary by-election from October 30 to 31.

This was necessitated on account of the decision of the State Government to declare Saturday as a public holiday on account of Id-ul fitr. Consequently, the date for scrutiny of the nominations has been changed from Saturday to Monday.

Wednesday will be the last day for withdrawal of candidatures, Chief Electoral Officer, Goa, said on Saturday.
