Inter-dist. football from today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Host Thiruvananthapuram will meet Kannur in the opening match of the State under-19 inter-district football tournament which begins at the Central stadium on Sunday.

Fourteen teams will take part in the six-day knock-out tournament. Defending champion Kozhikode and runner-up Ernakulam have been given direct entry into the quarterfinals.

The fixtures: Oct. 14: Thiruvananthapuram v Kannur; Alappuzha v Thrissur. Oct. 15: Kollam v Palakkad, Idukki v Kasargod, Kottayam v Malappuram, Pathanamthitta v Wayanad. Oct. 16: Quarterfinals. Oct. 17: Rest day. Oct. 18: Semifinals. Oct. 19: Final.
