Nirmal shines in City’s win

Bangalore: S. Nirmal’s 102 set the base for Bangalore City XI’s 74-run victory over Secretary’s XI in a KSCA under-15 inter-district cricket match here on Saturday.

The scores: Bangalore City XI 213 for five in 50 overs (S. Nirmal 102) bt Secretary’s XI 139 for six in 50 overs (Shreyas Gopal 50, Rahul Anand 42).

President’s XI 183 for seven in 50 overs (N. Dilip 61, Meru Yale 53) bt Vice President’s XI 169 in 50 overs (Girija Shankar 50).

Combined City XI 186 for six in 50 overs (Virender Singh 55) lost to Bangalore Zone XI 187 for eight in 47 overs.

Royals holds DYSS

Royals held DYSS to a draw in a State super division football league match here on Saturday. Kiran Kumar scored for DYSS in the 22nd minute and Thamarai’s 58th minute strike helped Royals draw level.

Earlier in the ‘A’ division, BHEL (EPD) defeated Universal 4-0. Shoban scored in the 34th and 36th minutes while Dakshinamurthy scored in the 41st minute. Later Shoban rounded off BHEL’s tally with a 62nd minute goal.

Vijaya Bank in final

Openers Shyam Ponnappa (89 not out) and B.A. Vinay (70 not out) shared an unbeaten 170-run partnership and helped Vijaya Bank register a ten-wicket victory over RWF in an Industries cricket tournament semifinal here on Friday. In the final on Monday, Vijaya Bank will clash with State Bank of Mysore (SBM)

The scores (semifinals): RWF 167 for five in 39 overs (Yere Goud 65 not out) lost to Vijaya Bank 170 for no loss in 24 overs (Shyam Ponnappa 89 not out, B.A. Vinay 70 not out).

MICO, Naganathapura 82 in 20 overs lost to SBM 82 for no loss in 10 overs (Nooruddin 45 not out).

Hat-trick by Pradeep

Pradeep’s hat-trick (23rd, 30th and 32nd) helped SBMJC defeat Rising Star 9-1 in a D.S. Murthy and V. Karunakaran memorial hockey tournament match here on Saturday.

Avinash (2), Srikanth (2), Subbaiah and Anand Patil completed the tally for SBMJC. Abhishek scored Rising Star’s lone goal in the 26th minute.

ASC pips JSC

ASC defeated JSC 57-56 in a closely contested State ‘A’ division basketball league match at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Saturday.

The results: ASC 57 (Nixon 16, Dharampal 14, Jayaranga 11) bt JSC 56 (Kaushal 26). HASC 65 (Umashankar 23, Kevin 13) bt Koramangala SC 53 (Jason 12, Rajesh Das 11).

Sidhant beats Baxi

Mohapatra Sidhant (2) defeated Chintan Baxi (2) in a boys’ third round match of the National under-9 chess championship here on Saturday.

Badminton tournament

The Sports Writers Association of Bangalore (SWAB) will be conducting an inter-media badminton tournament at the KBA courts in the second week of November. Events will be held in men’s singles, women’s singles and men’s doubles.
