Dacoits strike at Miyapur

Staff Reporter

Doctor attacked with cricket bat

They entered by removing window grills

Same gang responsible for two other dacoities

HYDERABAD: In a pre-dawn strike, dacoits took away gold jewellery weighing 25 tolas and Rs. 25,000 from the house of a doctor at Ushodaya Colony in Miyapur on Saturday.

The doctor, K. Prabhakar, 52, sustained a minor injury on his head when one of the intruders hit him with a cricket bat. The gang sneaked into the house around 3.30 a.m. by removing window grills of the house.

While one of the dacoits wielded a knife, others carried sticks. They threatened to kill the doctor and his wife Aruna if they raised an alarm. Their son Anshul, a seventh standard student, was sleeping in another room. Initially, the doctor tried to resist but backed off after a dacoit attacked him with a bat, Miyapur police station Inspector J. Bhadreshwar said.

Later, the gang collected the gold ornaments and cash and walked away from the main entrance. Some of the gang members wore ‘lungi’ and banians. Others were clad in shorts and spoke in Hindi. Going by their modus operandi, the police suspect that same gang is responsible for the recent dacoities in Kushaiguda and Kukatpally.
