Samithi says city still experiencing water shortage Says KWA is trying to sidestep the issue Kochi: The Vishala Kochi Kudivella Samrakshna Samithi proposes to file a contempt court case against the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) for not complying with the undertaking given before the High Court on the HUDCO-aided water supply scheme. At a press conference here on Saturday, office-bearers of the Samithi alleged that the drinking water problem had worsened since the commissioning of the HUDCO-aided water supply scheme. In response to a writ petition filed by the samithi, the KWA had said that 108 mld water could be distributed in the city in addition to the existing quantity of water being distributed. Thus the drinking water shortage could be solved in the city. The authority also undertook that drinking water scarcity would be solved within six months. The office-bearers of the Samithi said despite the commissioning of the project, the city still experienced acute drinking water crisis. View endorsedThe Corporation also endorsed this view if one went by the assessment made by the Corporation Council recently. In fact, the KWA was really cheating the people, they said. The authority had taken the stand that western Kochi would not get sufficient drinking water even if the DFID scheme was implemented. The KWA was trying to sidestep the issue by saying that the existing pipes did not have the required strength to bear the pressure of more quantity of water being pumped under the HUDCO-aided scheme, the office-bearers of the Samithi said.
