Cuddalore
CUDDALORE: The district administration along with Isha Yoga Centre has proposed to plant 12 lakh saplings in Cuddalore by November. The saplings have been raised in coordination with the Agricultural Department, according to Collector Rajendra Ratnoo. In a statement here on Saturday, Mr. Ratnoo said a United Nation’s study had revealed that owing to fast depleting forest cover, a vast stretch of Tamil Nadu was facing the threat of turning into an arid area. To prevent such a possibility, it had been decided to extend green cover. Planting saplings in households and on the premises of educational institutions was part of this endeavour. Mr. Ratnoo said the “Pasumai Karangal” (green arm of the Isha Yoga Centre) and the “Green everywhere” programme of the district administration had the same goals and hence joined hands. He called upon panchayat presidents and headmistresses/headmasters of schools to register their sapling requirement with the respective Block Development Officers by October 25. Saplings would be supplied from November 9. Details could be obtained from the following coordinators of the centre. In Cuddalore V. Balu can be contacted at 9943322901; in Neyveli contact Kalaiselvan at 9443049751, and in Vriddhachalam Srinivasan can be contacted at 9443331427.
