UPA government’s ‘retreat’ pathetic, says Swamy
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The “retreat” by the United Progressive Alliance Government on the India-U.S. nuclear cooperation agreement is “pathetic and ignoble,” Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said on Saturday.
Though he was against the agreement in view of the absence of any clause requiring the U.S. to declare India as a “nuclear weapons state,” Dr. Swamy said that, neverthless, the “retreat” sullied the credibility of the Indian state.
The latest development came after a series of statements by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi which were seen as challenging the Left on the nuclear deal, he noted.
