Lakshmana Rao registers win

HYDERABAD: D. Lakshmana Rao outwitted K. Pranav in the second round of the open category of the Jai Jawan Trophy Brilliant State Open prize money chess tournament here on Saturday.

Police Officers win

Police Officers Cricket Club entered the knock-out phase with a 30-run win over Media Club in the APSACS Cup floodlit cricket tournament at Sports Coaching Foundation Grounds (Masab Tank) here.

The scores: Police Officers Cricket Club 94 (Devender Singh 31) bt Media Club 64 (Ravi three for 18).

Vizag official for Military Games

The organising secretary of AP Amateur Boxing Association and a qualified referee, G.V. Raviraju is to officiate as a referee and judge in the boxing event of fourth World Military Games being held here, according to chairman of APABA I. Uma Maheswara Rao. The APABA congratulated Mr. Raviraju on his assignment.

Big win for YVNR

Kaikaluru’s YVNR Government Degree College scored a massive 150-run victory over Gudivada’s ANR College in the Acharya Nagarjuna University (East Zone) inter-collegiate cricket tournament at Siddhartha Engineering College grounds at Vijayawada on Saturday.

Brief scores: YVNR Govt. Degree College 121 in 28.4 overs (Ananth four for 22, Prabhakar three for 15) bt A.N.R College 72 in 18.1 overs (Varma three for 17, Naresh two for 17).

Athletics selection

ACA Central Zone U-19 women team’s selection trials will be held at Bhimavaram’s DNR College grounds from Oct. 22 to 24.

Players, who have registered their names with their respective district associations, are eligible for the trials.

Players should report to Sekhar Raju, adhoc committee member of West Godavari Cricket Association on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. along with their date of birth certificates and two passport photographs.

Selection trials

The Triathlon Association of Hyderabad District will conduct selection trials at the GHMC swimming pool, Sanathnagar on Oct. 18 from 7 to 9 a.m. Its teams for the inter-district aquathlon championships at Godavarikhani, Karimnagar on October 27 and 28 will be picked at the above trials.

The following are the age-groups and their respective distances: Junior boys and girls (U- 18 years): 600m swimming, 5km run; sub-junior boys and girls (U-15 years): 400m swimming and 3km run; sub-junior boys and girls (U-10 years): 200m swimming and 1km run.

A registration fee of Rs. 50 will be charged for each triathlete, who must be a resident of the Twin Cities. Entries, along with age certificates and two photos measuring 3 x 3 cms must be submitted on or before Oct. 17.

Easy for Nizamabad

Nizamabad posted a 4-0 win over Hyderabad in the senior inter-district hockey championship for girls in Guntur on Saturday, according to information received here.

V. Sandhya netted a brace, while Bharati and Saroja struck once each.
