Vinod scores a hat-trick

CHENNAI: Vinod’s hat-trick enabled Toronto HC pip HVF Avadi 4-3 in a Chennai Hockey Association first division league match at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Friday. Sankar scored the fourth goal for Toronto. Chandrasekar (2) and Kannan netted for HVF.

Other result: ABM Infotech 2 (Viswanathan, Gopinath) bt Cathedral HC 1 (Samuel).

Double for Thangam

G. Thangam of the Tamil Nadu Commando Force won a double in the women’s section of the SDAT-ranking athletics competition held recently at the Nehru stadium.

In the junior section, N. Vivek Ramakrishnan (Velammal MHSS), R. Priyadarshini (Seetha Devi Garodia), R. Raghavi (Govt HSS) and C.V. Lanceek (MDHS) also recorded a double each.

Ajay, Rohini raring to go

With an Olympic berth for the Beijing Games next year as a goal, sailors Ajay Rau and Rohini Rau are ready to leave for a stint of training in France before taking to competitions in Australia.

In Chennai, they were working with Ramji Srinivas for keeping their fitness level high. In France, the brother and sister will be coached by Gedrus, former Olympic Sailor, Philip, former Belgium Olympic Head Coach and Trevor of Ireland. They will be trained intensively on boat speed, endurance, tactics and drills as also sailing technique. Prior to leaving for Australia, Ajay will also take part in an ISAF Grade 3 event in Spain.

In Australia Rohini and Ajay will participate in events in Melbourne and Sydney. An event in Auckland in New Zealand is also planned. Ajay Rau is sponsored by the Mittal Champions Trust. Both sailors are supported by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and the AMM Foundation.
