CHENNAI: SRM University had a good day, registering victories in ball badminton and volleyball on the first day of the three-day second Shri Ishari Velan Memorial Trophy State-level inter-collegiate tournament here on Saturday. The event is being organised by the Vel’s Srinivasa College of Engineering and Technology, Thalambur. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by T. Raja Sekar, Indian Railways ball badminton coach. The results: Ball badminton: SRM University bt Vel’s Srinivasa College of Engineering 29-6, 29-16; Tagore Engineering bt Danish College 29-13, 29-13. Basketball: Annamalai University bt Easwari Engineering College 54-20. Volleyball: SRM University bt Bharath University 25-10, 25-13; Sathyabama University bt Vel’s Arts College 25-12, 25- 8; Easwari Engineering College bt SMK College 27-25, 16-25, 25-22. Muthu holds ArvindMuthu Alagappan held C.J. Arvind to a draw in the second round of the Maharaja Agrasen FIDE-rated chess tournament at Agarwal Vidyalaya in Chennai on Saturday.
