Wider public participation in securities suggested
KARUR: People should take care while investing in securities, speakers underlined at an “Investor awareness programme” organised by the Salem Satellite Chapter of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India here on Saturday.
Presiding over the meet, R. Vasudevan, Regional Director, Southern Region of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Chennai, highlighted the steps taken by the Centre in creating awareness among the public while investing in securities. He advocated wider public participation in securities for getting better returns on their investment.
Inaugurating the programme, Chairman of Karur Vysya Bank P.T. Kuppuswamy dealt with the options available to the public in investing apart from banks. Investing in securities had grown in proportion due to increased awareness among the investors, he said.
Past president of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and Managing Director of Cameo Corporate Services, Chennai, R. Ravi, dwelt on the dos and don’ts while dealing with Initial Public Offers. Managing Director of SKDC Consultants, Coimbatore, K. Narendra gave an overview of the primary market and its IPOs.
Tamil Nadu Regional Head, Reliance Money, S. Rajaraman discussed the secondary market and dematerialisation of securities while Company Secretary of Karur Vysya Bank R. Kannan dwelt at length on the rights of investors. Chairman of the Salem Satellite Chapter of the Institute Solaiyappan welcomed the gathering. Deputy General Manager of bank A.S. Vasudevan proposed a vote of thanks.
