Gulbarga
Civic officials accused of misusing Rs. 9 crore Raju Kulageri to meet Governor soon GULBARGA: Working president of the district unit of the Janata Dal (United) Raju Kulageri on Sunday threatened to file a public interest litigation (PIL) against the decision of the Lokayukta rejecting the charges of misappropriation and misuse of Rs. 9 crore released to the Gulbarga City Corporation under the Chief Minister’s special package for the development of roads and footpaths. Addressing presspersons here, Dr. Kulageri said that he had received a communication from the Lokayukta’s office rejecting the charges levelled by him on the utilisation of Rs. 9 crore by the corporation. The communication did not reveal the reasons for the rejection of his complaint. He said that he had filed a complaint with the Lokayukta about the alleged misappropriation and misuse of funds by the city corporation officials in January. Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta had directed Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey to inspect the works mentioned in the complaint and file a report. Dr. Kulageri said that the Deputy Commissioner, who inspected a few works, ordered a third party inspection after it was established that there were instances of misuse of funds released to the corporation. He said the third party inspection was conducted by experts from the PDA College of Engineering in the city. They had submitted a report pointing out several misgivings in the claims of the corporation officials on the execution of works. Dr. Kulageri alleged that the technical wing of the Lokayukta, which conducted an inquiry into the complaint, had given a clean chit to the corporation officials and submitted a report to the Lokayukta stating that there was no truth in the charges of misuse of funds. Based on the report, the Lokayukta’s office had sent a communication to him rejecting the charges against the corporation officials. Dr. Kulageri said that he would meet Governor Rameshwar Thakur soon and submit a memorandum seeking a comprehensive inquiry into all the projects taken up by the city corporation.
