Unemployed fishermen given assitance

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam has distributed goods autos worth Rs.1.30 lakhs to unemployed fishermen to eke out livelihood by carrying out the transportation of fish catch. Sravanti, a non-governmental organisation with the financial assistance of ‘Save the children’ has provided the autos.

While complimenting the NGOs for their gesture, the Collector has advised people of tsunami-affected villages to make best use of the assistance extended to them by the voluntary organisations. He advised the beneficiaries of Lakshmipathi Puram, Pedavalasala, Chinavalasa and Chinaboddu Venkatayapalem villages of Thallarevu mandal to improve their conditions eliminating the middlemen in the fish trade. He also advised them to keep away from vices and utilise their earnings to the well-being of their children. G. S. Kumar, project coordinator of Sravanti, spoke.
