BSNL to extend WLL service in Chittoor

Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI: BSNL’s Tirupati Telecom District is keen on expanding its footprint across Chittoor district by reaching out to places which remained oblivious to even cellular revolution till recently.

Though ‘DataOne’, the Nigam’s Broadband facility is available only in Tirupati, Chittoor and Madanapalle towns now, work is in progress to extend the facility to 13 more places, of which Renigunta, Chandragiri and Karakambadi are part of the city, while B.Kothakota, Bangarupalem, Kuppam, Pakala, Piler, Punganur, Puttur, Srikalahasti, Venkatagiri Kota and Valmikipuram are expected to be ‘surprise beneficiaries’.

The Nigam has proposed to extend Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) services to as many as 27 locations, mostly major Panchayats, due to which internet will be available to the villages situated nearby to the WLL base stations.

The Nigam plans to provide internet connectivity to at least 10 per cent of the rural customers.
