ANANTAPUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday demanded an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh to the family of mine worker who died in an accident in the mine on Saturday due to collapse of clay and boulders in the mine in the Muchukota forest area of Pedda Pappuru mandal. One Nagaiah died in the mine mishap.

The Communist Party of India (M) leaders G. Obulakonda Reddy, M. Imtiaz, K. A. Ratnaiah and R.V. Naidu visited other seriously injured workers in the mishap, Nagamuni and Saichandra who are being treated in a private hospital here on Sunday.
Six others who were also injured in the collapse in the mine on Saturday, were discharged after treatment.
The accident occurred in the white clay mine of Venkateshwara Minerals belonging to a ruling party Member of Parliament (MP).
Workers extract the white clay from the mining activity inside a tunnel and the mineral is brought out in trolleys arranged on rails.
The collapse occurred on Saturday when the workers were engaged in digging for the clay inside the tunnel.
Safety measures
The CPI (M) leaders alleged that no safety measures were taken in the mine and demanding initiation of criminal action against the MP blaming him for the death of the worker.
They also demanded Rs. 50,000 compensation each to the injured workers.
