Inaugurating the World Health Organisation’s Rural Health Conference for the South-East Asia region at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on October 14, the Union Minister for Health, Mr. D.P. Karmarkar, stressed the importance of enlisting the enthusiasm and active support of rural communities in rural health programmes and the important part women members of the community had to play in making it a success. The Minister pointed out that rural health programmes which were not accompanied by programmes of rural reconstruction would have little chance of producing the desirable results.
